What You Should Know About Fostering Rescue Animals

We consider fostering to be one of the most important roles in any animal rescue organization.

In fact, foster homes are the backbone of ours. With more foster homes available, we can give more animals comfortable, loving environments while we seach for their forever home, keeping them our of crowded shelters throughout the Northshore.

Fostering is incredibly rewarding, but can be very challening, as well. Please consider the following things that you should know about fostering rescue animals while considering whether to open to your home to animals in need throughout St. Tammany Parish.

Foster Homes Are Important Because
  • They keep rescue animals out of overcrowded shelters and eliminate the possibility of euthanasia that comes with many of them.
  • Foster families learn the animal's personality to help us determine what type of owner and environment would be an ideal fit for it.
  • Socializing animals who have previously not been around people or have been neglected is important to aid in their transition to a permanent living situation.
  • They provide rescue animals with a loving and safe environment to live in while while we search for their forever home.
Things To consider before Fostering
  • Is your home set up to accept one or more animals?
  • Will your current pets accept new additions to their home?
  • Do you have the time to commit to caring for an (or another) animal?
  • Are you prepared to possibly say goodbye when a permanent home is found?
  • Can you handle how absolutely adorable our rescue animals are?
