All About Us

Chania

St. Tammany Animal Resource Team (START), founded in 1997, is devoted to reducing the number of homeless animals in our community. We are an all volunteer group which depends on donations and fundraisers to pay for veterinary care and spaying/neutering of animals. All donations to START go directly to benefit the animals. Our rescues are fostered in the homes of volunteers until placement. START is working toward the day when no animal is killed simply because it does not have a home.

START's programs include: "TNR in Cat-safe Maintained areas" in which volunteers trap cats in feral colonies, spay/neuter and return them to their familiar surroundings; "Help Those Who Need Help Most" helping elderly people who can no longer care for a pet by placing that pet in a foster home until a permanent home can be found; "Low Cost Spay Neuter Opportunities" helping members of the community who need information on low-cost spay/neuter options for their own pets; "Don't Forget About Mom!" START volunteers make every effort to locate the mother of kittens and puppies and make sure that she gets spayed.
